In English, I enjoy reading into a text and finding deeper meanings to better understand the writer’s intentions and message. In Maths, I enjoy working through difficult questions, and using my problem solving skills to reach the answer. My hobbies include reading and writing, ice skating, and anything creative. I have worked with young people previously, volunteering as a Young Leader and, more recently, a Unit Helper in Girlguiding. I was also a reading ‘Super-tutor’ in my school’s reading programme, designed to help Year 7 students boost their confidence and skill in reading, meaning I would step in to cover for any tutors who were absent when they planned to meet with their assigned tutee, and I oversaw the running of the programme as a whole. Hi my name is Gabriel. I am a 28 year old 11+ tutor. I love helping students prepare for their 11+ entrance exams. I have a degree in English from Rhodes University. I have a passion for teaching and for helping others grow. I have experience with helping students prepare for the GL Assessment 11+ test as well as others such as the Sutton Boys 11+ test. In 2018 I enrolled in a Bachelor of the Arts at Rhodes University in my home country of South Africa. Rhodes University has the best Humanities Faculty and the best English Department in the country and so it was a natural choice for me as I intended to study English Literature. I completed my triple major Bachelor's in English Literature, History and Philosophy in 2020.

I am a Masters degree from Leeds Conservatoire and a BA from The University of Birmingham. I have 5 years of experience tutoring, offering tutoring in English Literature, Language and Drama from KS3 to A Level. I am a motived and hardworking person with a love for teaching and helping students to reach their full potential. I received a MA with Merit in Musical Theatre Company from Leeds Conservatoire and I have a 2:1 in BA Drama and Theatre Arts from the University of Birmingham. Before studying at university I attended Wycombe High School for 6th Form achieve AAB in English, History and Drama. As well as a B in AS Level 3 Core Maths. I adapt lesson style and content to your needs. We can go through specific subject areas, study skills and exam skills as required. I can vary how the material is delivered according to the situation and what works for you. I will teach and do lecture notes where appropriate, or take a more "coaching" style if that suits you and the situation better. We can even do more seminar/discussion style lessons as you become more comfortable with the material. At the heart of all of the above is making sure that we are working together so that you can achieve your goals. I know that you are probably already having lessons in school or at home, and my goal will be to complement those existing lessons rather than replacing them so that you can get the best value out of our time together. Specialisms: I am able to cover all aspects of the curriculum but I am particularly focused on skills. Psychology is a little different to other subjects covered at A-Level - not only do students have to learn a lot of information and produce it under exam conditions, but there is also a need to analyze and evaluate what has been learned so that they can write clearly, concisely and insightfully about that information. As well as teaching the syllabus content, I can help improve a student's thinking and writing skills so that they can go into exams with more confidence. I have also developed my coaching skills so work with students to help them improve their own problem-solving capabilities so that they can identify how they can study more effectively. A bit about me: I'm a PhD-qualified tutor who, over the course of my career, spent time working as a researcher, consultant and analyst across different industries. In all of those other roles, the part I enjoyed most was training, teaching and coaching people, so I am working towards making that my full-time career. Working in industry has taught me the importance of always turning up prepared and ready to work, using clear, prompt and honest communication and making sure that whoever I am working with knows that I am working in their best interests. The same will apply when we work together. In my spare time I love to play football and follow a lot of sport. I am learning to play guitar (very slowly) and enjoy listening to music, going to gigs when the opportunity arises. I love learning and am always doing some course or another - I'm currently studying to teach English as a foreign language and working towards accredited coach status.
