I specialise in GCSE and A-Level English, helping students develop confidence in literary analysis, essay writing and exam success. I hold an MA in English Literature and an LLB (Qualifying Law Degree), both from Canterbury Christ Church University. I achieved A-Levels in English Literature, Health & Social Care, and Philosophy. At GCSE, I achieved Grade 9 in English Literature, Grade 8 in English Language, and completed a total of nine GCSEs. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in literary analysis, critical thinking, essay writing, and exam technique, which I bring to every tutoring session.

I have been tutoring with GoStudent for almost a year now, having formerly worked at museums, churches and summer camps. I enjoy working with children and am a current Sunday-School teacher and former volunteer with several youth charities. Hi there. James here, from South Africa. I taught in London in Walthamstow for my probationary year in 1991, and then in Johannesburg and Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa for a total of 21 years. I have taught Cambridge A Level History and England and South Africa's English and History curricula. I am also a published researcher, poet, and author. I enjoy cross-country running. I like NETFLIX mystery series. I regularly get out wilderness walking and cross country swimming. Since February 2025, I tutor English and Religious Studies for GoStudent. I battled with learning difficulties at school. However, I did very well after school, because I knew that English opens doors. So, I set goals. Then I achieved a B.A (1985) and a B. Ed (1996) degree, at Wits University in Johannesburg. I did a Masters Degree in Theology (Regent College, Vancouver, B.C., 2001) and a PhD in Church History (University of KwaZulu-Natal, 2016). I believe education is a lifelong journey. We master English every day for the rest of our lives. So I'm still learning as I tutor GCSE students, A Level students, and juniors, to reach their highest goals.
